Boise's Fair Housing Public Awareness Initiative

The City of Boise and the Mayor's Fair Housing Task Force launched a Fair Housing Public Awareness Initiative intended to further awareness and understanding of fair housing rights and responsibilities under the federal Fair Housing Act of 1968. Many community fair housing stakeholders have invested in this project, which include radio and television public-service announcements, billboards, bus panels, bus benches and community presentations.

Fair Housing Task Force

  • In 2008, Mayor David Bieter appointed a Fair Housing Task Force composed of community representatives from the real estate, human rights, advocacy, housing, and banking sectors.

  • The task force recommended a public awareness initiative be undertaken while it continues to shepherd the city's fair housing plan and activities, and addresses several impediments to fair housing identified in the plan.
